About Jazzy Explores Texas
A heartfelt journey through the Lone Star State
The Story Behind the Book
Jazzy Explores Texas was born from a love of adventure and a deep pride in the great state of Texas. What started as bedtime stories about a curious pup exploring famous Texas landmarks grew into a beautifully illustrated children's book.
The book takes young readers on a journey through some of Texas's most iconic destinations—from the historic Alamo in San Antonio, to the majestic State Capitol in Austin, and all the way to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Our goal is to inspire curiosity, celebrate Texas heritage, and create lasting memories for families to share together.
Meet the Team

Author
Bryan Jones
Bryan Jones is a native Texan, having spent his youth in College Station before moving to Austin. A three-time graduate of the University of Texas, Bryan was also a collegiate swimmer, becoming an All-American and holding both world and American records (which have all since been broken). Looking for a creative outlet to share his adventures with his daughters, he drew inspiration from his first dog, Jazzy. A yellow lab rescued from an animal shelter, Jazzy loved to be outside and explore new places. Bryan lives in Austin and is married to his college sweetheart, with whom he has two amazing daughters.

Illustrator
Bob Leland
Bob Leland, a native of College Station, Texas, attributes his illustration contributions to his deep love and knowledge of Texas. A self-described Renaissance man, Leland has enjoyed various roles, including landscape architecture, coaching swimming, and teaching art at Texas A&M University and high school. His love for Texas and passion for its beauty inspired him to illustrate Jazzy Explores Texas. A pivotal moment in his creative journey was a science project at College Hills Elementary, where he collected Texas wildflowers, exploring every region of the state.

Chief Exploration Officer
Jazzy
Jazzy, aka Jasper, was a pound puppy that found her calling exploring Texas. With a love of food (taffy, hamburgers, steak), a passion for fetch and swimming, and a hatred of squirrels 🐿️, she was the definition of a Good Girl.
